Help Protect America's Salmon Heritage!
Urge your U.S. Senators to safeguard a recent court decision that moves salmon recovery forward!
In America's Pacific Northwest, salmon have been vital to a celebrated cultural and economic heritage. They create family-wage jobs, sustain cultures and communities, and contribute to the economic and ecological health of the region. But with many populations of Pacific salmon and steelhead on the brink of extinction, we need a recovery plan that will bring these remarkable fish back to our rivers.
Please contact your senators today and urge them to support salmon recovery!
We need the U.S Senate to support a federal court's recent decision invalidating a flawed federal salmon plan. This decision clears the way to craft a plan that actually works for salmon, communities, and local economies in the Northwest. Judge James Redden agreed with fishing businesses, conservation groups and taxpayer advocates that a proposed federal salmon plan that fails to provide for real salmon recovery and could even allow for the extinction of wild salmon and steelhead.
The court's decision is vulnerable to attack as we speak; there's a chance that some elected officials could interfere with this recent court ruling by undermining the court's decision through back-door legislative maneuvers. Please contact your senators today and urge them to defend this important victory for America's remaining salmon and for our economic and cultural heritage! Thank you!

Subject: Please Move Salmon Recovery Forward- Support Court Decision!
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I am writing to support a recent federal court decision overturning the federal salmon plan. This decision is a necessary first step to developing a salmon recovery strategy that truly works for fish, Northwest communities, and local economies. So far, federal efforts to recover Pacific salmon and steelhead have been status quo, and continue to edge salmon populations toward extinction.
I am counting on you to support salmon recovery by defending this recent court decision, and to oppose any efforts to undermine it in Congress. Now is the time for the Northwest to come together to craft a real plan for Pacific salmon recovery, and I am looking toward your leadership on this critically important issue.
Sincerely,

At the end of May, a federal court in Portland, invalidated a failed federal salmon plan for the Columbia and Snake rivers, agreeing with fishing businesses, conservation groups, and taxpayer advocates that the government's plan failed to chart a course for real salmon recovery, and could, in fact, allow for extinction of the Northwest's wild salmon and steelhead.
The court's decision has given wild salmon and salmon-based communities a new lease on life: Federal agencies now have a chance to craft a plan that actually works for the salmon that mean so much - economically, culturally, and ecologically - for America.
However, the court's decision is now vulnerable to attack in Congress. There's a chance that some elected officials could interfere with the judicial process by undermining the court's decision through back-door legislative maneuvers.
With most populations of Columbia-Snake river salmon and steelhead on the brink of extinction, the court's carefully-considered decision provides decision makers with a great opportunity to develop a salmon plan that takes us in the right direction - toward harvestable, self-sustaining populations of wild salmon, a thriving economy, and America's salmon heritage we all cherish.
