Play The Video For All It’s Worth

So, your organization decided to make a video. You fired up the video camera, shot too much B-roll and painstakingly edited the tape.  Even the board members like it.

Now what? It’s time to show it off, according to Michael Hoffman, CEO of Chicago-based See3 Communications. Hoffman talked about how your video could reach an audience online at the NTEN’s 2009 Nonprofit Technology Conference in San Francisco.

He explained some of the differences between two online video Web sites as examples of how to post online:

YouTube

  • It’s huge. The company estimates 10 hours of video are uploaded to the site every minute. Nearly 51 percent of users visit the site weekly or more often.
  • Social network functions. Users can subscribe to your video channel and send messages to your organization.
  • Familiarity. YouTube is to online video like Google is to online search or Facebook is to social networking. It has mammoth name recognition.

TubeMogul

  • Tracking. Who doesn't love analytics? It doesn't just show you "views" -- it breaks down how often videos are watched and your view's attention span if you host your own video. 
  • Overall distribution. Uploads your video to major video sites like Google Video, YouTube and Revver all at once.
  • How they get there. The site can determine how viewers found your video, such as Google or from Facebook.
