Healthy Teens Act Introduced in NYS!

Healthy Teens Act Introduced in NYS!

Assemblymember Richard Gottfried (D-Manhattan) and Senator Nicholas Spano (R-Westchester) have introduced the Healthy Teens Act in the New York State Legislature.

This legislation will make resources  available to fund age-appropriate, medically accurate sex education in New York State. School districts, BOCES, school-based health centers and community-based organizations would be able to apply for grants to develop and implement programs that provide students with real sex education.

New York State currently has no designated funding stream for comprehensive sex education in schools.

Subject: Bring the Healthy Teens Act (A.6619,S.5121) for a full floor vote!

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

As your constituent, I urge you to bring the Healthy Teens Act (A.6619,S.5121) to the floor for a vote during this legislative session.

It is critical that young people have access to age-appropriate, medically accurate information about sexuality. The Healthy Teens Act is all about helping young people make healthy decisions.

A 2003 Zogby International poll found that New Yorkers overwhelmingly (77%) support age-appropriate, medically accurate sex education. New York State has no designated funding stream for comprehensive sex education programs in schools.

Sincerely,
