We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit IDA's Action Center.

The short explanation of this alert was:

After nearly 20 years in Abilene Zoo's woefully inadequate elephant exhibit, 49-year-old African elephant Tanzy died from causes brought on by her captivity. Plans are already underway to send Tanzy’s surviving enclosure-mate, Tanya, to another zoo, but no zoo can provide the living conditions that elephants need to be healthy. Please "Take Action" to urge Abilene Mayor Norm Archibald to send Tanya to an elephant sanctuary instead of another zoo so that she does not die prematurely, like Tanzy, from captivity-related causes.

Please also urge friends and family to take action on this important issue.
