In America's Pacific Northwest, salmon have been vital to a celebrated cultural and economic heritage. They create family-wage jobs, sustain cultures and communities, and contribute to the economic and ecological health of the region. But with many populations of Pacific salmon and steelhead on the brink of extinction, we need a recovery plan that will bring these remarkable fish back to our rivers. Please contact your senators today and urge them to support salmon recovery! We need the U.S Senate to support a federal court's recent decision invalidating a flawed federal salmon plan. This decision clears the way to craft a plan that actually works for salmon, communities, and local economies in the Northwest. Judge James Redden agreed with fishing businesses, conservation groups and taxpayer advocates that a proposed federal salmon plan that fails to provide for real salmon recovery and could even allow for the extinction of wild salmon and steelhead.
The court's decision is vulnerable to attack as we speak; there's a chance that some elected officials could interfere with this recent court ruling by undermining the court's decision through back-door legislative maneuvers.
