The short explanation of this alert was:
The Defense Department this week issued an official exemption that allows the Navy to conduct their sonar training exercises in direct violation of the Marine Mammal Protection Act for another two years. The Navy says they need more time to conduct environmental studies because they believe that there is not enough scientific evidence linking underwater mid-frequency sonar exercises to the dozens of whales that have fatally or near-fatally stranded themselves on beaches since the Navy began using the technology. Please "Take Action" to urge your Senators and Representative to support the California Coastal Commission's mitigation recommendations regarding the Navy's sonar training exercises.
Also, please tell a friend about this issue and donate to IDA so that we can continue our important work for animals.
