The short explanation of this alert was:

In 2000, 189 members of the United Nations pledged to meet a set of targets called the Millennium Development Goals to dramatically reduce poverty by 2015.  Now, five years since these goals were signed, we are falling off track to meet them.  If we fail, we will squander an historic opportunity to help the world's poor.

But it's not too late—the goals are still within reach. Meeting them, however, will require leadership on the part of wealthy nations, especially the U.S.  The Millennium Development Goals Resolution will require the U.S. to honor the commitments it made in 2000, and help the poor through initiatives such as providing universal primary education and limiting the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Tell your representative to support the resolution using the letter below.  Feel free to personalize the letter if your want.
