The short explanation of this alert was:

VICTORY!

For over a year, our activists have been urging major American retailers not to sell "Made in Burma" goods to protest the Burmese military regime's enslavement of its own citizens. And in May, we bombarded Congress with emails urging passage of the "Burmese Freedom and Democracy Act" that would ban all imports from Burma.

The bill passed Congress overwhelmingly, and on July 28, President Bush signed it into law. In addition to banning Burma goods from U.S. stores, the new law freezes Burma's overseas assets, blocks International Monetary Fund and World Bank loans and grants to the regime, and increases U.S. support for Burma's democracy movement.

The days of abolitionists having to pressure company after company to stop funding Burma's human rights abuses are over!

The May Company and its chain stores are aiding and abetting slavery and other human rights abuses by retailing products made in Burma (also known as Myanmar).  Therefore, we must use our freedom of choice and protest the company’s policy of selling Burmese goods.
