The short explanation of this alert was:

Investing in education is key to the fight against global poverty, yet this year alone over 100 million children will not go to school. When children are educated, HIV/AIDS infection rates decrease, population growth stabilizes and household incomes skyrocket up to 20 percent for each additional year of schooling.  Despite promises to the contrary, the United States has failed to fund the programs and policies that will guarantee all children an education.  We call on Congress and President Bush to increase funding for basic education.
