IDA's Action Center.
The short explanation of this alert was:
In updating the draft norms and standards for the treatment of elephants in South Africa, the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEAT) has failed to listen to the recommendations of elephant experts. This reopens the door for the continued capture and training of elephants for elephant-back safaris and circuses in the country. Please Take Action now to respectfully urge DEAT officials to immediately halt the capture, captive breeding, and cruel "training" of wild elephants.
Also ask your friends and family to take action to help elephants.
