The short explanation of this alert was:

On Monday, December 12, 2005, the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) raided 13 medical marijuana dispensaries in San Diego despite longstanding state law protecting patients and their providers. DEA then continued the rampage on December 20, raiding the respected Hopenet coop in San Francisco. Meanwhile, on the east coast DEA continues to block legal medical marijuana research proposed by the University of Massachusetts that could lead to marijuana becoming a recognized medicine through the standard drug approval process. Your help is needed to rein in this rogue agency, by demanding that Congress enact federal legislation to protect patients and their providers and pressure DEA into letting the research proceed.
