Even as the Sudanese government speaks of peace at the negotiating table with the Southern Sudanese, they have launched a new campaign of terror in the Western Darfur region. Government-supported militias have begun ethnically cleansing the Black Muslim tribes indigenous to the area, and there have been reports of village raids akin to the slave raids once conducted against the Southern Sudanese.
Following the Sudanese government's declaration last week that it would open the war-torn Darfur region to humanitarian aid, the American Anti-Slavery Group called for the regime to also allow comprehensive, independent, and unfettered investigations of reported abductions that may have led to slavery.
