Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit IDA's Action Center. The short explanation of this alert was:
In August 2006, an historic humane ban on the sale of foie gras went into effect in the City of Chicago. Foie gras is an expensive “delicacy” made from the diseased livers of ducks and geese who have been force-fed to the verge of organ rupture. Investigators on foie gras farms have found filthy, overcrowded conditions and birds so weak they were unable to move away from rats who were eating them alive. On foie gras farms, two to three times a day, workers grab ducks and shove thick tubes down their throats as an air pump forces up to a pound of grain into the ducks’ stomachs. This critically important ban is now under attack. In a desperate attempt to stop the developing momentum against animal cruelty and abuse, two Chicago Aldermen, backed by lobbyists for animal exploitation industries, are pushing hard to repeal Chicago’s ban on foie gras. What You Can Do: Chicago residents, please sign this petition to tell your alderman you support the ban on foie gras in Chicago. Urge friends and family to as well.
