The short explanation of this alert was:
Don't let Senator Craig play politics again with Salmon Recovery!

Recently, Senator Larry Craig (R-Idaho) inserted a provision into a Senate Appropriations bill (S. 1696) that would take the recovery of wild salmon and steelhead many steps backward. The language of the article asks the Department of Interior to carry out a recovery plan from 2005. This plan was already ruled illegal in federal court last year.

Some Things To Consider:

(1) Previous federal salmon plans, or biological opinions(BiOp), for recovery of salmon and steelhead in the Columbia-Snake Basin have been ruled illegal in federal courts for violating the law - failing the salmon and people of the Northwest. Senator Craig wants us to go back to an illegal plan from 2005.

(2) This isn't the first time Sen. Craig has attempted to dodge established law. Last year, as you may remember, he orchestrated a failed attempt to eliminate funding for the Fish Passage Center, an integral piece of salmon recovery efforts.

(3) Now is not the time, and a congressional spending bill is certainly not the place, to play politics with salmon recovery. What both salmon and people need are real solutions, not cynical delay tactics.
