The short explanation of this alert was:

Long after a peace accord was signed between Khartoum and South Sudan, slavery, rape and brutality continue. Calling for the United States to play a larger role in terminating slavery in Sudan, Representative Chris Smith (R-NJ) introduced the Eradication of Slavery in Sudan Act of 2006 (HR 5911) in July, 2006.

Representative Smith is preparing to re-launch this anti-slavery bill. If passed, it will create a commission of experts who will investigate, document, and work to eradicate slavery in Sudan.

200 years ago, William Wilberforce collected 390,000 signatures to support his bill to abolish the slave trade.  Help us do the same this 200th anniversary year.
