June 3, 2008

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

After 25 years with the California Association of Nonprofits (CAN®), 12 years as a board member and 13 years as Executive Director, it is now time to say good-bye as I retire.

As Executive Director, it has been my pleasure to work with many wonderful people and see CAN triple both its staff and budget size, establish a highly successful Sacramento-based advocacy and lobbying program, grow our education program from one conference to over 25 annual conferences and workshops all around the state, and strengthen nonprofit accountability through our financial tools and workshops and our Integrity programs. I am proud that CAN has consistently partnered with over 70 organizations and individuals throughout the state every year.

As difficult as it is to say goodbye, I know that I am leaving CAN in the capable hands of 11 truly talented and dedicated staff and consultants, over 35 amazing volunteer advisors who give CAN several days a year of their time and 15 or so organizations that co-sponsor our conferences and workshops. They are committed to CAN and to helping you achieve your mission. They are an incredible group of people and I am honored to have worked with them.

What I value most from my experience with CAN has been the opportunity to meet with and learn from hundreds of nonprofits from all over the state. I am humbled by your dedication, hard work and determination--sometimes against incredible odds--to make life better and to make communities more livable for all of us. Thank you for letting me be a part of your work, your dreams, your frustrations and your success. I am truly blessed to be part of the California nonprofit community.

After 40+ years of public service I am transiting to the next chapter in my life. As my husband, Gary, also retires, we will travel a bit and spend more time with our children and ten wonderful grandchildren. Although we are retiring we will both continue the work we love and I may be finishing up some specific project work here at CAN. I have also revived my consulting practice and will soon announce an internet-based information-sharing project for nonprofits.

After June 15, you may also reach me at flogreen@mac.com. Please keep in touch. You've been such an important part of my life for so many years and I look forward to continuing the many friendships. There will be an opportunity to say good-bye in person at a special luncheon that is being arranged for later this Summer. I hope to see you there. An announcement about the event will be made in the coming weeks.

I wish you continued success in your endeavors and I will forever be grateful for your support and friendship. Thank you all for this extraordinary adventure.

Warmest Regards,

Flo Green
