33 Percent Renewable Portfolio Standard
We won an important victory recently when the legislature passed SB 14 and AB 64 – a pair of bills that will require a third of California’s energy to come from renewable sources by 2020!
An aggressive renewable portfolio standard (RPS) is critical to meeting the goals of California’s comprehensive global warming program. This legislation will create green-collar jobs in California and move us toward energy security, climate stability and economic prosperity.
Unfortunately, Gov. Schwarzenegger has promised to veto the legislation, hoping to enforce the 33 percent RPS by an executive order that would likely provoke legal challenges and create uncertainty for the renewable energy industry. Such a move would delay the funding needed to begin long-awaited renewable energy projects in California.
Tell Governor Schwarzenegger to sign SB 14 and AB 64 into law so California can put people back to work in good, green jobs.

Subject: Please Sign 33% RPS Legislation (SB 14 and AB 64) Into Law
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
As a California resident and supporter of the Apollo Alliance, I am writing to urge you to sign SB 14 and AB 64 into law, which will require that 33 percent of California's energy come from renewable sources by 2020.
California is beginning to implement the world's most comprehensive global warming program thanks to your leadership. A 33 percent renewable portfolio standard (RPS) is a critical step that will move us towards energy security, climate stability and economic prosperity.
This legislation is the result of a compromise between environmental, labor, social justice, community, business, utility, and regulatory leadership following many months of collaboration.
I understand that you would prefer to implement a 33 percent RPS by executive order, but I'm concerned that will provoke legal challenges and create uncertainty for the renewable energy industry. Such a move would delay long-awaited renewable energy projects in California.
I appreciate your efforts to maintain California's leadership role in the nationwide transition to a clean energy economy. I urge you to continue your dedication to clean energy and good jobs by signing SB 14 and AB 64 into law.
Sincerely,
