A bold plan for energy independence
The presidential candidates didn't talk much about energy independence at the debate. But you can. Write to your local newspaper and make the case for big, bold action to end our oil addiction and improve national security.
Here are some tips on writing a strong letter to the editor with a good chance of getting published:
- Keep it SHORT – most published letters are 100-200 words, or less. That's a few short paragraphs.
- Keep it simple – just make one basic point.
- It's best to refer or respond to an article recently published in the newspaper.
- Include your contact information so the paper can get in touch with you.
Use the talking points below to help hone your ideas – but your letter has a better chance of being published if it's in your own words. If you don't see your local paper on the list below, please feel free to contact them directly.
